Today I fished my local water (Mouldon Hill) I decided to try the Hinders White Plum in a 6mm Boosted Pellet on the method feeder loaded with the Hinders G-Force Feeder mix. This proved to be the winning method and I ended up with 14 tench and 4 large bream. I also managed to catch 2 rare crucians, also the bailiff was fishing 2 pegs up and asked what I was using as he was Struggling, so I gave him a handful of the Plum Pellet and a few hours later he went from Struggling to having his best ever days fishing. He also said he would be making a special trip to Hinders to buy some of those 6mm White Plum Boosted Pellets, thanks again Steve Clarke for sorting them out for me. Cheers Wayne

Manor Farm Fishery. Catch Report - 26th March - Cold overnight temperatures put a bit of a brake on catches this weekend, nevertheless John Ryder caught a 25-01 common on Carp Lake on Saturday morning to a bloodworm boile tipped with IB corn. Dell Ryder also caught 25.02lb on Friday evening to a bloodworm boilie topped with IB fake corn with a pva bag of pellets and crushed boillies. Terry landed 4 fish to 20lb Aaron caught 3 to 18-08 and Steve Ferguson bagged 5 to 23-10. Dan Jackson banked 4 to 24lb and Reece Jackson had 4 to 20lb and a bonus tench. Dave, whose previous PB was 10lb, smashed it with a 24-08. Chris Hayward bagged 6 fish to 18-4 and Michael Buckingham had 2 mid doubles. On Becks Lake sport was slower with Brett taking a 9-09, Harry picking up a 15lb common fishing up to the reeds. Josh caught a 15-15 common and David Coles and Chris O’Brian landed 9 bream between them to 8lb. Blunham Lake saw Jay land 2 commons and his friend Dean land 4 commons to 14lb, Chris Payne had one at 10lb. On Winters sport was slower than last week but Billy landed an 18lb common using a snail as a hookbait and fishing close to the reeds. Stuart Minney also caught a 22lb common and during the week Steve Berrington on his first time on Winters banked a 21-04. Anglers were Struggling on Booneys, the only report at the weekend was Kraig Dunn picking up one fish at 16-08. However during the week Daz and Ash Francis continued to find the fish with Daz banking a 26-0 and a 27-04 and Ash (pictured) banking the current lake record fish, although a bit down on its autumn weight, this time it weighed in at 34lb exactly. He has named the fish ‘Onescale’ which seems to us to be a pretty good name. The second match on the Match Canal was held on Saturday, coming in on first place was our own John Patmore with 59-09, second was Paul Nichols with 49-04, third was Allen Laney with 39-0 and fourth was Andy Tebbut with 36-04.

Here at Free Spirit Fishing with our consultants who are actually out there using all of the product between them, we do all we can to help you select the right rod. Here is a typical exchange that you wouldn't normally see. We won't guarantee always answering out of office times though. But will answer as soon as we can. 14 AUGUST 22:15 Jez Westgarth Jez Hi there - I am very close to buying a set of your fantastic rods, having tried them at the northern angling show earlier this year. I am Struggling to decide between the hi sive and the hi -sive ER. I am tempted by a 13ft rod (which would mean it's a hi-sive) but concerned it might be too much rod/too heavy for me to get the must out of it. Is it possible to chat though the options with one of your experts, couldn't find a number on your website to call. I will probably mail order through Johnson Ross or Walkers once I have decided. Many thanks Jez 15 AUGUST 10:36 Free Spirit Fishing Hi Jez, I have used all 3 and the one i use the most is the 13 ft Hi 'S' ive. in my hands it casts the furthest and is also the most forgiving playing a fish. The ER is probably the most popular and feel soft in the top for playing fish but they lock up more when playing them heavy. The 13's seem to always have a little more absorption. I guess Hutchie will probably comment with his views when he sees this too. (Shaun Harrison)Sent by Shaun Harrison Jez Westgarth Jez Shaun that is brilliant thank you so much for getting back to me - I can't ask for better advice and service before I have even bought a rod than from someone as experienced as yourself or Mark. You don't know me, but I am very good friends with Stuart Brookes and we fish together a lot. I had a long phone call with him last night and he said the same thing having borrowed your rods before he ordered his 13ft hi s ives. Interesting that the ERs can lock up, I do fish some weedy and snaggy waters so do need confidence playing them close in and the absorption you mention. Like Stu I am not the biggest caster, being just under 6ft tall and 11stone wet through - but want that elusive all round rod (as far as that is possible!!), but I am more regularly fishing bigger waters along with Stu so want to have a rod that will help me more regularly get to the limit of my casts, whilst allowing me to still effectively fish the margins which I also love doing. Currently I reach about 110yds with my fox horizon 3.5's. So seeing the places you fish on FB and knowing you most regularly use the 13ft hi s ive's is a huge help. Thanks Jez Free Spirit Fishing No problem, I'm not a big bloke at all but i find the 13's easy enough to get on with. They feel heavy and bulky compared to the others but it's still the rods I reach for when chucking or if I am limited on space (overseas trips) and don't know what I'll be coming up against. I've landed 50's on them hooked pretty close without needing to worry about the hook. I used the 12 ft ones (before the ER was released) as I never used to get on with 13 ft rods (Tri Cast and Century before) and actually picked one of Hutchies up as he was packing up at Grenville. I had a cast and rattled his marker knot out. he was on 16 lb line and I was amazed that I'd cast 160 plus on his 0.35 mm on a first cast. 2 more casts and the knot rattled out each time. To be fair I struggled to hit those ranges without dropping down in diameter and using leaders with the 12's and to be fair I used to crack the 0.35 mm off with my 12's. Once I got Hutch tugging away on the line and I realised how much softer they were compared to my 13's it became a no brainer. I ended up with a set of ER's as well when they were released as they felt so light in comparison but to be fair although an incredibly popular rod I find myself hardly reaching for them.Sent by Shaun Harrison Jez Westgarth Jez I think I am sold on the 13 ives - I also use a minimum of 0.35mm, and often 0.4mm. Great to know the extra foot on the 13's gives the soft

****CATCH REPORT****BREAKING NEWS****CATCH REPORT**** Our 'man of many talents' is Struggling to find time to be out on the bank of late, following the arrival of his beautiful baby girl, and who can blame him? He snuck out for a few hours and never fails to produce. Here he is summing up his quick trip to the lake... "Having a young baby restricts my fishing time massively but this week I also have my parents over from Fuerteventura staying with me so I wasn't expecting to get out any time. Last time they were over I coaxed my Dad down to the lake and he seemed to enjoy it. So ever the opportunist, yesterday I dropped a few subtle hints and thankfully he was quite receptive to the point I think he almost believes it was his suggestion to go to the lake for a few hours. In readiness for the trip I followed the same procedure that has been very effective for me recently- I put some floating pellets in a plastic bag and oversprayed with a generous amount of Crave overspray then sealed the bag for the night. As we walked along a spit of land running down the centre of the lake I noticed a few very slight movements in the lily pads close in where I haven't seen any carp for a while. Setting the stalking rod up as I watched the fish, I began to notice more and more of them in the pads. Feeling confident, I attached two of the Crave infused floating pellets to the hair that sits them tight to the size 10 Gripz hook and flicked them into a gap between the pads. A few fish moved in towards the bait and the two closest were nice looking mirrors until a small common popped out from under a pad and hoovered the baits down! A short fight in the pads saw me land the 9lb common and he was held up for the camera. After walking around half of the lake I found several small groups of carp in an area where they were sitting just under some floating weed then going to the bottom before popping back up. This made it quite tricky to pin them down and being fairly weedy in this area, I decided to stick with the surface approach as I couldn't guarantee good presentation on the bottom. As I stood frustrated waiting for an opportunity to present itself, a nose poked up through the floating weed a couple of feet from the bank so I lowered the Crave soaked pellets onto the surface a centimetre in-front of it. At first the nose lowered but then rose back up and engulfed the baits. The fight was short lived as the fish's head was covered with the floating weed and I was soon holding another common up for the camera. This one was a bit bigger weighing 12lb 12oz. After the photos were done the rain started and we had to call it a day but two carp in 3 hours was a very good return for what was a grabbed opportunity. Cheers Terry shop.pallatrax.co.uk

This week took me to a new venue for me. Squeezing matches in between work at the moment. Actually been nice to see some new places and Redwood park at Huby near York was today's choice. The match was fished on the redwood lake. With roughly 30 pegs, an island in the middle and willows around the margins it certainly looked the business. A quick word with the regulars at the draw at least gave me a few pointers. I drew peg 8, giving me the point fan island at about 30 meters. A nice looking margin and plenty of open water. Chose to fish the stonze system to the island, corn over the new pallatrax groundbait pellets down the edge and 4 mm pellets shallow at 14m. The regulars went straight out shallow and caught from the off. I started on the stone, and could only manage a few small stocky f1s and carp in the first 20 minutes. All the time I was pinging 15/20 pellets over my pole line every 30 seconds. I feel the longer you can leave a line, to gain the fishes confidence, the stronger it is when u go on it a quick look down the edge, with little reward, so it was time for shallow. Fed some pellets, shipped out and slapped the rig in, nothing happened!!!! Not what I'd hoped for. Went deeper, shallower, fed more, fed less, still nothing!! Hmmmm, now I was Struggling!! Back on the tip for a couple of small carp, down the edge for similar results. All the time feeding shallow still. There was only an hour and a half to go now. I was well behind. Back out shallow, before I could even feed, the elastic was ripped out of the pole. That's more like it. From nowhere the peg had come alive!! For the next hour I couldn't get in fast enough!!!! Small carp and f1s and the occasional big f1 were now swirling and boiling every time I fed. I went absolutely full tilt. Don't think I could have done much more. It just took them some time to turn up. I felt like I was still behind those who'd caught from the off. But the scales would tell. Being last to weigh in, I had 56lb to beat. So was delighted to put 76lb on the board. I reckon I've had 70lb in an hour and 15 minutes. Absolutely brilliant fishing. Nice to get a win, especially at a new venue. Being organised, prepared and having confidence in the bait and tackle I'm using is really starting to pay off. Many thanks to all at team Pallatrax for giving me the opportunity to be invloved in such an exciting project, plenty more to come I am sure. Chris Robson. Pallatrax Match Team.
